Who we help / Air conditioning

SEO for air conditioning installers

This is the most valuable traffic on this website. Across eleven trades we have measured, the average search is worth A$6 to A$7 to an advertiser. Here it is A$13.88, and “ducted air conditioning melbourne” is a A$32 click — the dearest we have found anywhere.

There is also a $5,530 government discount sitting in this trade with a timing rule attached, and almost nobody is explaining it.

First, the basics

Three ways to show up. They are not the same thing.

Worth two minutes, because the rest of this page keeps them apart.

The ads

Paid slots at the very top. You bid, you pay per click, you are there this afternoon. Decided by your credit card.

The map

Three businesses. That is the whole map pack. Fourth place is a link nobody taps. Decided by your Google profile: how close you are to the person searching, your categories, your hours, your reviews. Your website barely comes into it.

The list

The ordinary results underneath. Decided by your website: your pages, your words, the sites linking to you. When we say “organic” further down, this is what we mean.

Structure

Twelve suburbs, twelve with demand — and a third reading on the qualifier question.

Tiling said that adding a second qualifier to a suburb page wipes the demand out completely. Fencing said it keeps about 15%. This is the tie-breaker.

What it costs to buy this traffic, and what it costs to earn it.

The opportunity

Three separate credentials, and a $5,530 discount that vanishes if the job starts first.

Customers think “licensed” is one question. In this trade it is three, and none of them is a builder registration.

01

The technician’s refrigerant licence — and which one

Handling refrigerant requires a licence from the Australian Refrigeration Council. RAC01 is the full one. RSS03 is restricted: it covers installing and decommissioning single-head split systems under 18kW and nothing else. A fitter holding only RSS03 cannot lawfully touch a ducted system. That distinction is invisible to a customer and decisive for the job.

02

The business’s trading authorisation

Separately from the person, the company needs a Refrigerant Trading Authorisation to acquire, store or dispose of refrigerant at all. Both requirements sit under the Ozone Protection and Synthetic Greenhouse Gas Management Regulations 1995. So “are you licensed?” is really two questions about the individual and one about the business.

03

The discount, and how big it actually is

Victorian Energy Upgrades currently offers up to $5,530 off replacing a ducted gas heater with a high-efficiency reverse cycle system, and up to $1,610 for a non-ducted one, with claimed bill savings of up to $1,140 and $460 a year. Every Victorian household and business is eligible, private rentals included. Business incentives run $420 to $8,820. Home systems need a minimum five-year warranty.

04

And the sentence that decides whether they get it

If the customer uses their own installer rather than an accredited provider, that installer “must work with an accredited provider to apply the discount before any work starts”. Start the job first and the money is gone. Not reduced — gone.

Proof you can hand over

Four things a customer can check before they book.

Three are credentials. The fourth is worth more than all of them.

RSS03 or RAC01

Which refrigerant licence the technician holds. RSS03 stops at single-head splits under 18kW. Ducted needs the full one.

The company’s RTA

A Refrigerant Trading Authorisation belongs to the business, not the person. Without it the company cannot legally hold refrigerant.

$5,530

The current ceiling for replacing a ducted gas heater with high-efficiency reverse cycle under Victorian Energy Upgrades.

Before any work starts

When the accredited provider has to be involved. Miss this and the discount is not reduced — it is gone.

Common mistakes

Five things we fix on nearly every air conditioning site.

01

The rebate as a banner instead of a page

1,620 searches a month from people looking for the money, at difficulties of 4 and 8. A strip across the homepage saying “REBATES AVAILABLE” ranks for nothing. A page that explains the amounts, the eligibility and the before-work-starts rule ranks for all of it.

02

Cooling written up and heating ignored

Heating is 2,840 searches a month here — more than installation terms for cooling. “Hydronic heating melbourne” alone is 880 at a difficulty of 1, and “ducted heating repairs melbourne” is a A$22 click at a difficulty of 2. In this city that is not a sideline.

03

No separation between service and installation

They are different searches, different urgency and different money: installation is 3,480 searches at A$19.12, service and repair 2,000 at A$18.49. One page trying to be both is competing with itself for two customers who want completely different things.

04

Brand pages instead of job pages

“Daikin installer melbourne” is zero. “Mitsubishi air conditioning melbourne” is 70. Meanwhile “aircon installation melbourne” is 1,000 at a A$19 click. People search for the job and the outcome, not the badge on the box.

05

Being vague about which licence you hold

Customers cannot tell RSS03 from RAC01, which is exactly why saying it plainly works. If you can do ducted, say the licence that proves it. If you only do splits, say that too — it costs you the enquiries you would have lost anyway and wins the ones you deserve.
