Who we help / Concreters
SEO for concreters
There is no concreter’s licence in Victoria. There is a $10,000 line, and a driveway can sit on either side of it depending on what else is happening on the block. Almost no concreting website in Melbourne explains which. Meanwhile 880 people a month search “concreter melbourne”, at a difficulty of 3.

First, the basics
Three ways to show up. They are not the same thing.
Worth two minutes, because the rest of this page keeps them apart.
The ads
Paid slots at the very top. You bid, you pay per click, you are there this afternoon. Decided by your credit card.
The map
Three businesses. That is the whole map pack. Fourth place is a link nobody taps. Decided by your Google profile: how close you are to the person searching, your categories, your hours, your reviews. Your website barely comes into it.
The list
The ordinary results underneath. Decided by your website: your pages, your words, the sites linking to you. When we say “organic” further down, this is what we mean.
Structure
Concreting has a suburb layer. It is nowhere near where we guessed.
We predicted the growth corridors — new estates, new slabs, new driveways. We were wrong, and the way we were wrong is the useful part.

Pulled 25 September 2026, Australia-wide. Cost per click comes out of the keyword tool in US dollars, converted at 1 USD = 1.395 AUD and rounded to the dollar, with the US figure beside each one. Every sum below is done on the rounded figure so the arithmetic reconciles.
Rent or own
What it costs to buy this traffic, and what it costs to earn it.
| Share of searches captured by #1 | Monthly clicks | Equivalent ad cost | Campaign cost | Value vs ads |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| One-third (the rule of thumb) | 293 | A$2,930 | A$1,500 | 2.0× |
| One-quarter | 220 | A$2,200 | A$1,500 | 1.5× |
| One-sixth (ads win here) | 147 | A$1,470 | A$1,500 | 0.98× |
| One-tenth | 88 | A$880 | A$1,500 | 0.59× |
| 17% (break-even) | 150 | A$1,500 | A$1,500 | 1.0× |
Concreting clicks are cheap — A$10, against A$15 to A$29 for roofing and A$27 to A$46 for plumbing. Cheap clicks mean A$1,500 of ads buys a lot of them, which pushes the break-even up, not down. Two of our twelve plumbing suburb pages concede the same thing.
The opportunity
There is no concreter’s licence. There is a $10,000 line.
This is the strongest page a Melbourne concreter can write, and we have not found one who has written it.
Plumbing has licence classes. Electrical has licence classes. Concreting has neither. Anyone in Victoria can print a shirt and call themselves a concreter, and that is not a scandal — it is simply how the trade is regulated.
What does exist is a threshold. Domestic building work worth more than $10,000 requires a registered builder and a major domestic building contract in writing. Consumer Affairs Victoria puts it plainly: you must be registered “to handle a contract worth more than $10,000, or to reblock, restump, demolish or remove a home regardless of the value of this work”. The threshold counts labour, materials and GST — the total value of the project, not the labour line.
And here is the part almost nobody sets out. Driveways and paving are domestic building work. The definition covers “landscaping, paving, retaining structures, driveways, fencing, lighting, heating, air conditioning, water supply or sewerage”. But that applies when the work is associated with constructing or renovating a home. Standalone paving, unrelated to a build, is not domestic building work.
So the same $14,000 driveway sits inside the whole regime or outside it depending on what else is happening on the site that month.
Two more things that make most competing pages out of date as of this year.
The Victorian Building Authority no longer exists under that name — it is the Building and Plumbing Commission, and the old web addresses redirect. We checked again the day this page was written.
And Domestic Building Insurance was replaced by the Home Warranty scheme on 1 July 2026. The threshold moved from $16,000 to more than $20,000, and the cover from $300,000 to up to $400,000 in total per home. The trigger widened too, which is the bigger change: the old scheme paid out only where the builder had died, disappeared or become insolvent, while Home Warranty applies where work “is incomplete, defective or non-compliant and the builder fails or refuses to complete or fix the work”. Contracts signed before 1 July stay on the old scheme.
One last thing worth knowing about the competition. We went looking for anyone in the Melbourne concreting market writing about the $10,000 threshold. What came back was cost guides — and every one of them traces back to a lead-generation platform rather than a concreter, a regulator or an independent body.
The ground
The slab is the easy part. The dirt under it is not.
Melbourne sits on a lot of reactive clay, and reactive clay moves. CSIRO’s own guidance sorts sites into six classes: A for “most sand and rock sites with little or no ground movement from moisture changes”, then S slightly reactive, M moderately reactive, H1 and H2 highly reactive, and E for “extremely reactive sites, which may experience extreme ground movement”.
What moves that ground is not usually exotic. CSIRO names trees, which both push footings up as roots grow and pull moisture out of the soil causing it to shrink. And it names water: “a minuscule leak can be enough to saturate a clay foundation”, and downpipes not properly connected to stormwater “will direct a concentration of water to soil”.
Timing matters too. Consolidation “will usually take place during the first few months after construction but has been known to take many years in exceptional cases”.
The paperwork
Two duties on a job that looks like pouring concrete.
Cutting concrete is regulated work
Victoria’s crystalline silica duties commenced on 15 May 2022. The regulations name the process directly: “the use of a power tool or other form of mechanical plant to cut, grind, polish, or crush material containing crystalline silica”. That is a concrete saw, by definition. Where the work is high risk, an employer must prepare a crystalline silica hazard control statement before the work begins, provide training, run air monitoring where they are not sure of exposure, and arrange health monitoring supervised by a registered medical practitioner.
A crossover is council work in the road reserve
A driveway stops at the property line; the bit across the nature strip belongs to the council. Moonee Valley, to take one, requires two permits, charges $1,000, takes up to ten working days, and will not let a contractor near it without a current certificate showing minimum $10 million public liability. “The applicant must engage a private contractor at his/her own expense to carry out the works.”
Timing
Nobody pours in July.
Concreting is the most weather-bound trade on this site. You cannot pour properly into heavy rain, and the customer does not want their driveway dug up in the middle of winter either — so the work and the searching both bunch into the warmer half of the year.
Shape is indicative — a seasonal curve consistent with a weather-bound trade, not measured Melbourne concreting data. Confirm against the client's own Search Console before quoting it as fact.
Common mistakes
Five things we fix on nearly every concreting site.
A page for every suburb, including the ones nobody searches
The data above is blunt about this. Brunswick, Preston, Richmond, Footscray, the CBD, Ringwood, Tarneit, Truganina, Wollert, Clyde North, Mickleham — eleven suburbs, zero searches between them. Pages exist for several of them. That effort would have bought a Geelong page, which is 590 searches a month at a difficulty of 1.
One page for driveways, slabs, paths and polished floors
These are four different customers with four different budgets and they search four different ways. “Polished concrete melbourne” alone is 390 a month and is usually a renovation or a commercial fit-out, not a driveway. One page addressed to all of them ranks for none.
Nothing about what happens under the slab
Site classification, drainage, why the footings on one block are not the footings on the next. It is the single most credible thing a concreter can talk about, it is what separates a tradesman from a bloke with a mixer, and it is almost entirely absent from this market.
Cost pages that quote somebody else’s numbers
“Concrete driveway cost melbourne” and “exposed aggregate cost” both sit at a difficulty of 1, so the demand is real and the door is open. The problem is that every cost guide currently ranking traces back to a lead-generation platform. Publish your own ranges, with the factors that move them, and say they are yours.
Galleries with no context
Forty photographs of grey rectangles do nothing. The same forty photographs captioned with the suburb, the finish, the site class and what the job cost to solve are the most persuasive page on the site — and they give Google something local to read.
