SEO for plumbers in Frankston
Frankston is the best combination of size and openness we have found in Melbourne: 720 searches a month at a difficulty of 3, with another 210 on blocked drains. The suburb went from 6,449 people to about 42,000 in twenty years, and it has been quietly subdividing ever since. Both halves of that matter to a plumber.

First, the basics
Three ways to show up. They are not the same thing.
Worth two minutes, because the rest of this page keeps them apart.
The ads
Paid slots at the very top. You bid, you pay per click, you are there this afternoon. Decided by your credit card.
The map
Three businesses. That is the whole map pack. Fourth place is a link nobody taps. Decided by your Google profile: how close you are to the person searching, your categories, your hours, your reviews. Your website barely comes into it.
The list
The ordinary results underneath. Decided by your website: your pages, your words, the sites linking to you. When we say “organic” further down, this is what we mean.
The local picture
Why Frankston needs its own page.
Frankston had 6,449 people in 1947 and about 42,000 by 1966. That is the same post-war curve as half of outer Melbourne, and on its own it would not earn a page.
What earns the page is what happened next, and it shows up in one line of the census. 20.3% of dwellings here are semi-detached, townhouses or units. Nationally that figure is 12.6%. Frankston runs it at more than one and a half times the national rate, while still being 73.4% separate house.
In other words: a suburb of post-war houses that has spent thirty years quietly turning some of them into two.
Now the ground, and this is where we have to correct something we assumed.
Everybody calls Frankston sandy. The geology is more awkward than that: the Baxter Sandstone of the Brighton Group is described as ferruginous sandstone, sandy clay and ligneous clay — the same stratigraphic family that sits under Dandenong.
So it is not clean sand and it is not the reactive basalt clay of the west. It is a mixture, and what you hit depends on where you dig.
And then the gap we could not close. We wanted to tell you when Frankston was sewered, the way the Ringwood page can say 1964 and the Geelong page can say 1916.
It is not on the record anywhere we could reach. What is on the record is the Kananook Creek Association describing the creek in its unsewered years as having “no sewerage, no flow and full of septic and sullage waste”, and the well-documented fact that outer metropolitan Melbourne was still working through a sewerage backlog into the 1970s.
Demand
What Frankston actually types.
The second best set of numbers on this site, and the reason is not the volume. It is the difficulty.
| Search | A month | Difficulty in the list | Paid difficulty | Cost per click |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| “plumber frankston” | 720 | 3 | 60 | A$32 · US$23.12 |
| “blocked drain frankston” | 210 | 3 | 76 | A$18 · US$13.19 |
| “emergency plumber frankston” | 70 | 9 | 40 | A$43 · US$30.49 |
| “hot water repair frankston” | 10 | 4 | 15 | no rate |
Pulled 8 September 2026, Australia-wide. Cost per click comes out of the keyword tool in US dollars, converted at 1 USD = 1.395 AUD, with the US figure beside each one.
Rent or own
What it costs to buy this traffic, and what it costs to earn it.
| Share of searches captured by #1 | Monthly clicks | Equivalent ad cost | Campaign cost | Value vs ads |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| One-third (the rule of thumb) | 240 | A$7,680 | A$1,500 | 5.1× |
| One-quarter | 180 | A$5,760 | A$1,500 | 3.8× |
| One-sixth | 120 | A$3,840 | A$1,500 | 2.6× |
| One-tenth | 72 | A$2,304 | A$1,500 | 1.5× |
| 6.5% (break-even) | 47 | A$1,504 | A$1,500 | 1.0× |
Cut the assumption to a tenth — deliberately pessimistic — and the campaign is still worth half as much again as the ad spend. It only stops winning below 6.5%.
Timing
Burst pipes peak in winter. Rankings don't.
Hot water systems fail and pipes split when it gets cold. June through August is when the phone should be running hot. Rankings take months to move. They do not turn up because the weather did.
Shape is indicative — a seasonal curve, not measured Frankston data. Confirm against the client's own Search Console before quoting it as fact.
The work
What we'd actually do for a Frankston plumber.
A real page for this suburb — the list
Not a template with the name swapped. The jobs you actually do here — and in Frankston that means being straight about whether you work on units and subdivided blocks, because one dwelling in five is one. The streets you know. Photos of work in the area.
Service area set honestly — the map
Your Google profile set to the suburbs you will genuinely drive to, not all of Melbourne. Frankston sits at the end of a long run of bayside suburbs and it is tempting to claim the lot. Overreaching waters you down everywhere; being specific is what gets you onto the map.
Local links and citations — both
Mentions from businesses actually in the area. The trader association. The footy club you sponsor. The builder you sub for — and in a suburb subdividing this hard, the builder relationship is a real one, not a hypothetical.
Reviews that name the suburb — the map
A review saying “came out to our place in Frankston on a Sunday” does something a five-star with no words does not. We give you the ask that gets those without it sounding scripted.
The competition
Who’s already holding the three spots.
This is the map, not the list. Three businesses fit on it. Fourth place is in the expanded local results, which is a tap most people never make.
