SEO for electricians in Geelong

“Electrician geelong” is 1,000 searches a month at a difficulty of 7 — the largest suburb term we have measured for any trade, anywhere on this site. Behind it sits a city with three separate electrical eras: roughly 5,000 Housing Commission houses built between 1947 and 1976, a growth area that did not exist before 2010, and everything in between. Two of those three produce work that legally cannot be connected until an independent inspector has seen it.

First, the basics

Three ways to show up. They are not the same thing.

Worth two minutes, because the rest of this page keeps them apart.

The ads

Paid slots at the very top. You bid, you pay per click, you are there this afternoon. Decided by your credit card.

The map

Three businesses. That is the whole map pack. Fourth place is a link nobody taps. Decided by your Google profile: how close you are to the person searching, your categories, your hours, your reviews. Your website barely comes into it.

The list

The ordinary results underneath. Decided by your website: your pages, your words, the sites linking to you. When we say “organic” further down, this is what we mean.

The local picture

Why Geelong needs its own page.

Most suburb pages on this site turn on one fact. Geelong has three, and they are fifty years apart.

The north is post-war public housing, and there is a lot of it. The Housing Commission of Victoria began building in Norlane in 1947, peaked between 1951 and 1957, and finished its programme there in 1976 with 2,464 Commission houses — of which over 1,200 were prefabricated units imported from Holland and France, put up for workers at Ford, International Harvester and a phosphate works. From the late 1950s the Commission built five more estates at Corio, adding about 2,500 houses in roughly twenty years.

That is close to five thousand homes in one corner of one city, all of them now between fifty and seventy-five years old.

The south did not exist. The Armstrong Creek growth area was approved in June 2010, land sales started late that year, and by July 2019 it held about 15,000 people. Nothing there needs rewiring. What it needs is solar, batteries and vehicle chargers.

Timing

Electrical peaks in the heat, not the cold.

Air conditioners trip breakers, switchboards run hot and storms take out supply. December through February is when the phone should be running hot. Rankings take months to move. They do not turn up because the weather did.

Shape is indicative — a seasonal curve, not measured Geelong data. Confirm against the client's own Search Console before quoting it as fact.

The work

What we'd actually do for a Geelong electrician.

01

A real page for this suburb — the list

Not a template with the name swapped. In Geelong that means writing about post-war Commission stock and a growth area that is fifteen years old, because those are two genuinely different customers and the second one did not exist when most local electricians built their websites.

02

Service area set honestly — the map

Your Google profile set to the parts of Geelong you will actually drive to. Corio and Norlane in the north, Armstrong Creek in the south and central Geelong between them are a forty-minute spread. Claiming all of it is how you rank in none of it.

03

Local links and citations — both

A page for the work the housing stock actually generates, and a separate one for the work the new estates generate. Switchboard and consumer-mains replacement is prescribed work with a mandatory independent inspection. Solar and battery installation is also prescribed work, for a completely different reason. Both deserve saying out loud, because a customer who has read either one is already half-sold.

04

Reviews that name the suburb — the map

Reviews that mention the suburb, because the map pack is decided on proximity and signals rather than on your website. We ask for them by job and by area, not in a bulk email.

The competition

Who’s already holding the three spots.

This is the map, not the list. Three businesses fit on it. Fourth place is in the expanded local results, which is a tap most people never make.

Other trades

Not an electrician?

Plumbers

Same city, different chain. Geelong plumbing turns on drainage and water age; electrical turns on switchboard age. The suburb term is 1,900 a month for plumbers against 1,000 for electricians.

Air conditioning

The most valuable traffic we have measured anywhere — A$13.88 a search, and a $5,530 rebate with a timing rule attached. Heavily overlapping customers with electrical.

Builders

The other end of the same job. New estates in Armstrong Creek mean new installations rather than rewires, which is builder work with an electrician inside it.
